Popayán is a city that is neglected by many tourists. The colonial architecture and rich history is well-preserved to be explored. I realized that it is one of the prettiest and underrated cities in the Cauca department. There are many day trip options to avail. You will find a plethora of things to do here. Some of these have been listed below.
Check out Parque Caldas
It is the main square which is situated next to the clock tower at the historic center and cathedral of the town. I just walked around the street. Local had been relaxing and street-food vendors had been selling food. The park had been established in 1537. The rich colonial history along with the monuments, trees, pigeons, and flowers make the stroll really enjoyable. Sometimes, local set up tents to sell souvenirs, crafts, and some accessories. I did some shopping in here.
Walk Along Puente Del Humilladero
The arched bridge of the city had been developed in the year 1873 with a combination of cement and superstitious elements like ox-blood. I came to learn from the local people that it is believed that the blood from a strong animal is going to hold the bridge strongly. Prior to it being constructed, the local people had to climb up the steep road with a heavy load to reach the main square. After you have taken a stroll on the bridge, check out the garden placed next to it.
Drop in at Silvia Indigenous Market
This is a small town which is only an hour a half away. The market put up every Tuesday sells traditional foods and you will find the locals trading here. I didn’t find a place to be touristy but it is quite attractive. Here, Guambiano community sells produces, farm supplies, and textiles into the town for selling.

Porto is a vibrant and very fascinating city. In a passage of five years, it became the most respected tourist destination for Western Europe. It has the most buzzing nightlife I have ever experienced. Porto is largely popular for the production of – Port, which is made and stored in the cellars near the banks of Douro River. Apart from the basics here are some attractions you must consider visiting.
Port Tasting and Tours
Porto is very famous for Port – the rich traditional wine, which is matured by the producers in large vessels also known as, caves authentically, down the southern bank lines of Douro River. The port lodges are the one who manages this whole process and gave me the tour around the whole execution of the wine production. It was a treat to eyes and certainly to the taste buds. A single bottle of port ranges from 20 euros to 200 euros.
Casã Da Músicã
This is one of the most architecturally imposed castles, which provide us with many cultural events full of events. It is present on the Rotunda da Boavista, which is your cultural hub for shopping starting from small to huge stuff. Casã offers various cultural performances. The ones I saw were their celebration dances and opera performances. The theme is always vibrant and energetic. The entry ticket for the same is 7.5 euros and the last show airs at 10 pm.
This tour starts from the small village named – Sistelo, known as Little Tibet as it offers various small accessories made by the people themselves. This hiking mainly uses the cobbled paths through the fields and villages. I was provided with magical landscapes and scenic valleys. The hiking trip is a 4-hour long hike and starts from 30 euros, while one can contact the hikers. The nighttime of hike is even more beautiful.

Perth is the capital city of Western Australia. Located on the famous Swan River, the city has many sandy beaches, gardens, and parks. It is an ideal place for spending a quiet weekend with your friends. And if you are traveling with family, the city offers lots of entertainment venues like amusement centers, zoos, wildlife, shopping malls, water tours, and water sports. Our short stay in Perth was full of excitement and fun. Mentioned below are some of the most-visited places in the city.
Kings Park and Botanic Gardena
Kings Park and Botanic Gardena is a place visited by every tourist that enters the city of Perth. The place offers a great view of the entire city including the beautiful Swan River. The botanic garden is quite large and can keep you enchanted for hours. It is a perfect family outing location recommended for everyone. The entry is totally free and besides gardens, the place has skywalks, restaurants, and playgrounds.
St. Mary’s Cathedral
Even though the city has many attractions, nothing can match the glory of the grand cathedral of St Mary located on Victoria Square. The church has a history that dates back to 1863. The construction was carried out in various stages and was fully completed in 2010. The Gothic-styled church has beautiful stained glass windows and well-designed interiors. The surrounding grounds are also quite impressive and can make you feel quite relaxed and serene.
The last day of our trip was spent by the beautiful Swan River. Located on Riverside Drive, the river-side area offers a great view of the waters. We opted for a boating trip to make the visit all the more adventurous. Besides boating, visitors also engage in paddling, skiing, and fishing. The best time to visit the place is during the evening hours.

Set among the green valleys and rolling hill, the city of Pereira is going to mesmerize you with its natural landscape. The warm weather all throughout the year and the surrounding landscape makes it the perfect city to be explored. I found several attractions that can entice tourists like natural reserves, mountains, and biking and hiking spots. Let’s take a look at the best things you can do when you are in Pereira.
Go for Bike Tours
I realized that the best way to discover the city surrounded by coffee regions is by biking. The tours are really popular among tourists since you will get an insight into culture, wildlife, and destinations. Visiting nature reserves, smaller towns, and coffee plantations had been one of the best experiences. I might not have been able to see these otherwise.
Drop at Parque Del Café
Ever heard of an amusement park which is dedicated to coffee? Well, this is where you get to see one. The theme park with exciting roller coaster rides, games, and shows was extremely thrilling. Other than this, there are restaurants and cafes. Do not miss out on a cup of brew. I also visited the coffee museum trailing through the forest. However, what makes it more popular is the Coffee Show featuring local traditions being showcased by talented dancers and performers.
This lake is situated in Parque National Los Nevados. The fresh source of the city offers a breathtaking view. I carried a fishing rod with me to try my luck at hooking a rainbow trout. I caught sight of many endangered Colombian bird species, too. If you have to spend the night with your family or friends, you can camp around the lake. The high altitude makes the atmosphere much cool.
